For appropriate application of the laptop battery refer to the manual. General laptop battery care hints: 1. New laptop batteries are in discharged state, they must be charged before use. In order to achieve maximum battery capacity, upon initial use charge and discharge laptop battery fully two to three times. 2. If laptop batteries are not supposed to be used for more than one month, it is advisable to remove them from the laptop and store in a cool, dry place. 3. If laptop batteries have not been used for more than a month-time period, perform the new battery break-in procedure which is described above. 4. Dirty laptop battery contacts are to be cleaned with a cotton swab and alcohol. This is to be done in order to maintain a good connection between the battery and laptop. 5. Laptop battery may stop working in a case of downfall as internal cells may be damaged. If your battery doesn’t work properly check it for cracks on the plastic battery casing, damages on the metallic battery contacts, or any signs of leakage. Remember, it could be dangerous to continue applying the damaged laptop battery. 6. Make sure not to carry a laptop battery together with metal objects in one bag. It may short circuit of the laptop battery. Laptop battery care hints to increase its lifespan: 1. It is preferable to run the laptop from the AC power adapter instead of using the battery. This is highly increases the lifespan of laptop battery. Remember: the more you use the laptop battery the quicker it will be necessary to replace it. 2. You should know that even when the laptop is plugged into the mains and the laptop battery is fully charged, the laptop still uses the battery resources in tiny amounts, putting unnecessary charge cycles on the battery. So if it is possible, detach the laptop battery from the laptop when plugged into an AC adapter. 3. It is essential: when the laptop battery is removed and stored for a while it should contain about 40 - 50% of its power. Do not fully charge or discharge the laptop battery before storage. 4. The last hint is that laptop batteries should be fully drained and recharged every couple of months. However it is not necessary with Li-Ion laptop batteries if they do not suffer from memory effect.
